Cameron and Brittany’s story began in 2014. They first crossed paths at the racetrack, noticed each other from afar, and eventually connected through Instagram. They were just kids then—young, hopeful, and unaware of how much life they would grow through together. I’ll never forget the first time I met Brittany. We met at the mall, where she arrived with her mom and a friend, fresh out of eighth grade. From the very beginning, there was something genuine about them.
Like many great love stories, theirs wasn’t without pauses. They spent some time apart, growing individually, only to find their way back to one another. Today, they’ve been together for a little over seven years and speak openly about forever—something that feels entirely natural when you see them together.
On Saturday, June 10th, 2023, Cameron and Brittany headed to Tybee Island for what Brittany believed was just a casual couples photoshoot. What she didn’t know was that Cameron had come to me—his sister—nearly three months earlier with a ring and a carefully thought-out plan. His idea was simple but meaningful: surprise Brittany with a proposal during a photoshoot so they could capture authentic engagement photos in the moment she said “yes.”
About two months before the shoot, Cameron quietly reached out to Brittany’s parents and asked to stop by their house while she was at work. He sat down with them and asked for her hand, making the moment even more intentional. In the days leading up to the shoot, Cameron grew noticeably quieter—uncharacteristically so. We all suspected nerves, though he’d never admit it.
We arrived at Tybee Island around 6:45 PM to a beach that was still buzzing with activity. After finding the perfect spot, we began shooting as the sun slowly lowered. By 7:30 PM, Cameron still hadn’t proposed, despite turning bright red multiple times as the anticipation built. I nudged him more than once, hoping we’d have enough daylight for ring shots—and if I’m being honest, I was just as nervous as he was. At one point, I lifted my reflector to hide my face and whispered, “Let’s go.”
I positioned Brittany for a few solo seated shots, and Cameron quietly stepped in behind her. As he pulled out the ring and got into place, I asked Brittany to turn around and look at him. She glanced at me like I’d lost my mind—until she saw Cameron. “Oh my gosh,” she whispered, tears filling her eyes. When he asked, “Will you marry me?” she said yes without hesitation. They embraced, followed by a joyful group hug, and from that moment on, the rest of the session was filled with effortless smiles, laughter, and some of the most beautiful, genuine moments I’ve ever photographed.
A few days earlier, we had made dinner reservations at Pier 16 for 8:00 PM, just a short walk from the beach. Both of their parents were waiting there to surprise Brittany and celebrate the engagement. As we reached the rooftop, cheers erupted. Brittany stood stunned as strangers clapped and celebrated alongside family. The joy was contagious. Over dinner, laughter, and shared dreams of the future, Cameron and Brittany toasted their engagement with lemon drop shots—marking the beginning of a new chapter.
It was a night full of love, surprise, and unforgettable memories. I feel incredibly grateful to have witnessed—and captured—such a meaningful moment for my brother and my future sister-in-law.
